History of Chatterson Funeral Home
In 1928 William (Bill) Chatterson purchased the Baxter Furniture Store and Undertaking business (Collingwood), which had been in operation since prior to 1910, and eventually moved the funeral home from its’ downtown storefront to its present location in 1939. This gracious old home, built in the Art’s & Craft’s style in the early 1900’s, is steeped in tradition and warmth as it welcomes families in their time of need.
Hazel Belle Chatterson was also the first licensed female funeral director and embalmer in Ontario.
The sleigh hearse photo is taken on Third Street in front of the Telfer home.
