Gyles; Barbara Irene (nee Martin) (May 26, 1927 to December 27, 2009) passed
away peacefully at her home in Blue Mountains surrounded by family after a
valiant battle with liver disease. She
will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Barbara is survived by her beloved husband of
60 years, Cedric Gyles, their children Cedric (Sue-Anne) Gyles of Toronto,
Patricia (Brent) Miller of Winnipeg, Marti (Michael) Williams of Collingwood,
Edward Gyles of Toronto, John (Jane) Gyles of Blue Mountains, Peter Gyles of
Toronto, and her grandchildren, Brice, Jason, Richelle (Darrell), Steven,
Alexander, Thomas, Lisa, William, Sarah, Jessica, Brier, Kailey, and
great-grandchildren Kylee, Matthew, Jarek, Kenna. She is also survived by her brothers Jack
(Anne) Martin and Mervin (Doreen) Martin, both of Abbotsford, BC as well as
many nephews and nieces and special friends Gloria Andrews and Brian Cartwright
of Toronto. She is preceded in death by
her brother Thomas Edward Martin. Barb dedicated her life to her family and
friends, loved to travel, was an avid reader and lawn bowler, enjoyed cooking,
and was greatly involved in community activities. Barb had a big heart and throughout her life
was a volunteer to many organizations including the Ontario Meals-on-Wheels
where her lifework was acknowledged with the receipt of the Ontario Medal for
Good Citizenship in 1994 from the Premier and Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario. Education was important to
Barb and she attained her Bachelor of Applied Arts degree from Ryerson
Polytechnical Institute in Toronto in 1987. We would like to extend our many
thanks to Dr. H. O’Halloran and the medical staff at Collingwood General &
Marine Hospital and the personal care workers and nurses associated with the
Community Care Access Centre for their dedication, kindness, compassion and
caring support provided to Barbara. Visitation will be held on Monday, January
4, 2010, from 7 – 9 PM at Chatterson Funeral Home, Collingwood (705-445-4700)
followed by a funeral mass on Tuesday at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church,
63 Elgin Street, Collingwood, Ontario.

Meals-on-Wheels, the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation or a
charity of your choice.
