    • Joanne Guoba : Bereavement Therapist Since 1993, Joanne Guoba has been the solution to helping people make sense of grief and loss issues in her Psychotherapy private practice. Joanne specializes in assisting adults to recover from a sudden loss. Bringing the expertise and knowledge drawn from 14 years of operating her practice within Toronto, Joanne is pleased to offer her services to the Southern Georgian Bay area, where she permanently relocated in the fall of 2007. With strong clinical and instructional talents, Joanne delivers counselling to volunteers on the technique of facilitating bereavement groups. Joanne was regularly relied upon by a well known funeral home in Toronto to lead bereavement groups. Subscribing to a practical, caring and client-focused approach, allows Joanne to help those undergoing the trauma of grief to function while accepting the new normal in their lives. Joanne focuses on normalizing her clients' loss experience through non-intrusive structure, starting out with primary self-care and then assisting with the deeper emotional issues that are part of the grieving and healing process. By leveraging her strengths in "benign curiosity", Joanne learns what the client is feeling and thinking. Asking these key questions paves the way for her to launch the best course of action to get clients to work through the process after experiencing an unexpected loss. The client sets the pace so Joanne's patience is a valued attribute within her profession. Alongside this, Joanne is aware of diverse cultural and religious factors which may play a part in the road to recovery. With a commitment to life-long learning, Joanne's formal education includes: 1) RELATIONAL PSYCHOTHERAPY - Toronto Institute for Relational Psychotherapy (TIRP). Comprised of 3 years including 1200 client hours, 160 hours of supervision, and 135 hours of personal therapy along with rigorous academic and seminar requirements. 2) BEREAVEMENT EDUCATION DIPLOMA - from the Canadian Centre for Bereavement Education & Grief Counseling. 3) HUMAN SERVICES COUNSELLOR CERTIFICATION - (First Class Honours) from George Brown College. 4) BACHELOR of ARTS DEGREE in PSYCHOLOGY from the University of Toronto. This is underscored by a commitment to ongoing professional development. Joanne has completed numerous supplementary training programs spanning topics such as grief trauma and loss, transactional analysis, therapeutic relationships, suicide intervention, mood disorders and drug addiction. Because of Joanne's affiliation with TIRP, she has earned and maintained Clinical Member status with the Ontario Society of Psychotherapists. Whether it is one to one guidance, conducting group therapy sessions, or training trainers, Joanne's professionalism, positive mindset, and specialized education allow her to meet the requirements of those in need.
